The sauna is built from non-allergenic cedar and is a corner unit designed for three people so is comfortably spacious for two people. It has eight bio-ceramic heaters positioned for even heat distribution.

You can control the session time and the temperature making it a pleasant environment to relax – there’s a CD player and AM-FM radio with stereo speakers, and a reading light.

When using the sauna you should drink plenty of water due to sweating - there is bottled water in the Spa Cottage. Shower afterwards to cleanse the skin. The cottage has a bathroom with shower and single whirlpool bathtub or you can use those in your guestroom

Ashley and Diana, our professional spa therapists are highly enthusiastic about infrared saunas. They enjoy providing massages to people who have just had a sauna session and shower since their bodies are relaxed with loosened muscle tissue and the treatment is thus more effective. These are described fully on our Victoria Massage page. Our guests have been delighted with their pleasant professionalism.

Infrared Saunas - FAQ

What is an infrared sauna?
Think of it like this: on a sunny day you feel warmth from the sun until a cloud passes overhead. You immediately feel cooler although the temperature remains the same. When you are in an infra-red sauna you feel the same infrared rays as you do from the sun, warming your body. These invisible waves not only heat us but also bring many healthy benefits.

What is the difference between an infrared sauna and a traditional sauna?
The invisible far infrared waves pass through the air without heating it uncomfortably. Temperatures are 100-130 degrees F compared to 170-200 degrees F in a traditional sauna. As well as being a more pleasant environment it has the advantage that the body actually sweats more at such temperatures. Think of it as a heat therapy room.

Your bodily health improves just as you sit and enjoy the sauna experience! Health benefits are similar in both types of saunas although infrared saunas detoxify up to seven times more heavy metals than traditional ones.

Both are equally safe. Infra-red heat is used to warm premature babies.

What are the health benefits?
Infrared waves penetrate up to 1.5 inches into your body, warming muscles, joints, nerve ends and tissues. This increases blood circulation and oxygen flow. Results include relief of muscular pains and stiffness and accelerated healing of such conditions as eczema, psoriasis, acne, cuts and burns. Pain is relieved for arthritis, fibromyalgia and bursitis.

The sauna’s infrared heat increases the temperature of the skin causing the layer of cellulite (fat and water) and oil below the surface to secrete out of the skin’s oil glands, releasing toxins too. This results in cleansed rejuvenated skin.

The body contains an alarming array of accumulated toxins and minerals. Just a few are: nicotine, formaldehyde, pesticides, cholesterol, ammonia, gasoline and industrial chemicals. There are also carcinogenic heavy metals including mercury, lead, aluminum and nickel. The sweating process promotes the detoxification of these from the body.

Weight loss: as blood vessels are heated they dilate increasing the circulation and increasing the heart rate by 50-75%. This has the same metabolic result as physical exercise, burning up to 600 calories in half an hour in a sauna.

A reduction of stress and fatigue is experienced and relief from chronic fatigue syndrome.

Lower blood pressure is enhanced, as is lower cholesterol.

It boosts the immune system (helpful in the early stages of a cold).  Sinuses are decongested.
